A healthy diet revolves around the three macro-nutrients: proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. But not all macro-nutrients are the same. There are such things as low quality proteins, carbs, and fats. These low quality ingredients can have negative side effects for your dog. If you want to make the most out of your dog’s diet, it is important to give them high quality food.

Taste of the Wild High Prairie Canine Formula only uses high quality ingredients. For proteins, the formula uses a combination of Bison, lamb, beef, and venison. Honestly this is better than I eat. This protein blend provides your dog with the necessary amino acids for a healthy body.

Lower quality dog foods use fillers like corn or other grains. The downside to this is that a lot of dogs have corn allergies. Not all dogs do, but it is something to be aware of. Taste of the Wild uses sweet potatoes and peas as the carbohydrate in their formula. Sweet potatoes are a complex carbohydrate, meaning it takes time to break it down.

Taste of the Wild also has Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids in it. These are good fats. Yes, there are good fats out there. These fats contribute to giving your dog healthy skin and a shiny coat.

370 calories per cup

*Most dogs need around 25 to 30 calories per pound of body weight. Example: a 30 lbs dog needs between 750 and 900 calories.

The price is on the higher side so this may be a turn off to you, but for its quality, it is reasonable. Another thing to consider is that this food is fairly calorie dense. A 30 pound bag should get a dog roughly 60 days’ worth of food.

This food has given very good results. From thicker coats to boosted immune systems, the all natural ingredients really are a miracle for a dog’s body.

Some people have had issues with diarrhea but I have not experienced this. This can sometimes be the result of switching foods too fast. So take it slow and incrementally add it into your dog’s current food.

If your dog has allergies, skin issues, or digestive issues, then this may be the food for you. It has worked wonders for many people. The biggest downside I see is the cost. Natural dog foods tend to be on the higher end because they don’t have the fillers that normal dog foods have. A filler is like watering down a drink; it saves money on production, but lowers quality.

If you are content with spending a little extra on a natural dog food, then Taste of the Wild would be a great option. There are other brands out there but from what I found the price per pound is far better than their competitor’s.
